So, my sister Ana and I are going backpacking in a week. She cannot have milk or sugar due to allergies, so no hot chocolate. :( but!!! Xylitol, and one package each unsweetened cocoa and soy milk powder to the rescue! It is not the same, but it isn't bad, either. I added cinnamon and pepper to spice it up a bit.

I'm on vacation this week, but staying home. And actually, working most mornings til about 1pm. So, not so much like "vacation", really.

Anyway, it's raining today, a nice soft summer rain, and I'm off to actually register my car in the state of Washington (!) and get a bank account here (!). I know, I know, like I really live here.

Tomatoes are popping up all over on my patio... 4 plants going, but one of them is obviously going to try to drown me in mid-sized tomatoes come the first week in August. Beware, the person who agrees to house sit for me the week I'm backpacking!! :)

One more shot from our hike this weekend. There are a few more shots up a Flickr, if you care... the trail we intended to hike turned out to be pretty impassible, so we ended up just hiking along the (debris covered) road to the trailhead and then turning back. Luckily the road was closed so far from the trailhead that we actually got a good 10 miles done!
